VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver-based film company, Really Real Films Inc., is pleased to announce that its pilot television program, “Wolf Canyon,” received seven nominations for the annual Leo Awards, the most of any show in its category. The seven nominations in “Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series” are Best Program, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Picture Editing, Best Performance: Lorne Cardinal, Best Performance: Jessica Harmon, and Best Performance: Matty Finochio. The Leo Awards 2010 Celebration and Gala Award Ceremonies are slated for June 4 and 5, 2010, at the Westin Bayshore Vancouver.
The half-hour comedy, created and written by Michael Markus and Tim Stubinski, directed by Allan Harmon, and produced by Cynde Harmon, first aired on December 24, 2009, on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN). It received rave reviews, including The Daily Observer and “TVGUIDE.CA.”
“Wolf Canyon,” entails an eponymous show-within-a-show that is a third-rate syndicated U.S. action adventure series shot in a remote area of Western Canada on land belonging to the First Nation (Cree) community of Horse Head Lake. Isolated from any urban contact and necessities, boredom and madness strike the dysfunctional cast and crew in their makeshift trailer town. The humorous contrast between the urban Showbiz Folks’ discomfort and travails in the wilderness and the harmonious ease of their First Nation neighbors creates a recipe for hilarity.
American actor Kevin Sorbo (“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” and “Andromeda”) heads the ensemble cast that includes Lorne Cardinal (“Corner Gas”), Matty Finochio, Jessica Harmon, Barbara Tyson, Ali Liebert, Casey Manderson, Jesse Wheeler, Nikki Payne, Evan Adams, Richard Harmon and Brendan Beiser.
“I am happy for the show to get so much recognition,” said Sorbo, one of the comedy’s Executive Producers. “It is a great show!”
“The project was pitched to various Canadian networks before APTN’s Western Program Executive, Marty Ballentyne, saw its (comedic) potential,” Cynde Harmon stated. Ballentyne and APTN’s CEO, Jean LaRose, and Director of Programming, Peter Strutt, provided Really Real Films Inc. with a development deal that later green lit “Wolf Canyon” for a pilot. The show is being distributed by Toronto’s Tricon Films Inc..
Really Real Films is proud to have developed and produced Wolf Canyon with the involvement of APTN, CTF, CAVCO and BC Film.
